New Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ Comes With Better Performance for Cheap

Raspberry Pi Foundation is upgrading its famous single-board computer, the Raspberry Pi, with a new model. Called Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, the model is a successor to the Pi 3 and dubbed an “evolutionary” upgrade. It is also a fitting way to commemorate the so-called Pi day, which was on14th of March.

However, that doesn’t mean that it’s just a Pi day thing with minor upgrades. The performance and networking capabilities have been drastically improved for Model B+.

Hardware

The processor here is a 1.4 GHz Broadcom BCM2837BO with four Cortex-A53 cores (unlike the 1.2 GHz BCM2837 previously). The result, thanks to a better circuit design, is a 15-percent increase in performance. It is paired with a single GB of RAM. Storage will be provided either via microSDHC or USB.

Model B+ has also been tested to make sure the increased power output can be sustained for a longer period of time. For connectivity, you get both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, which is compliant with all major certifications allowing easier use in commercial applications of the Pi, as well as Bluetooth 4.2 and Bluetooth Low Energy.

Connectivity and Price

There are 4 regular USB 2.0 ports, an HDMI port, 40-pin GPIO header, Power over Ethernet, display & camera ports, as well as audio outputs. Gigabit Ethernet over USB 2.0 is finally a thing on the Pi. The people behind it claim that the wired and wireless network throughput has increased by three times.

Pricing remains accessible to anyone, whether they are students or just enthusiasts wanting to try their hand at a new hobby, set at $35. Model B+ is available now.
