The Competition Commission of Pakistan has imposed a penalty of Rs1 million each on five battery manufacturers for violating section 10 of the Competition Act 2010.

It was found that five manufacturers including Atlas Battery, Exide Pakistan, Pakistan Accumulators, Millat Industrial Products and Century Engineering Industries were the violators.

This is a very useful information, and without it consumers would be unable to compare and differentiate the quality, suitability for use and price of the products.

The order stated that by omitting important information from their products and the marketing material, these companies not only deceived consumers but also harmed competition in the market.

The companies admitted before the commission that they concealed key information about their products from consumers and assured the commission to print the capacity on the packaging, body, and warranty cards of batteries from now on.

They will now also amend their advertisements and all marketing material to mention the capacity and other characteristics of their products.

  • We bought last week AGS gx-175 the seller tells us its 175AH. But when i notice the paking it very small size font it was written 140 AH. These companies are misleading the customer with their mysterious model number like Gx-175 so ordnary customer will thin its 175 AH and in reality it will be 140 AH. So very good step and the fine should be 100 Million.

    • If you see the packaging of a imported battery they have mentioned all details on it. In Pakistan, only misleading model no is mentioned on packaging.

  • Very delighted on the notice of CCP on battery products. As the CCP is aware there is no information which manufacturers, assemblers, consumers are all unaware about the effective charging rate, time required for full charge, and Ampere/Watts needed for charge of battery for wattage needed. to the Accumulator. The difference between dry charged batteries, and battery with lead acid, or distilled water. As the batteries being manufactured in Pakistan are completely abandoned/banned, and no shipping carrier, company will accept cargo for such batteries. The CCP should review completely standards on batteries by International Automobile Manufacturer Association, Paris with abbreviation of http://WWW.OICA. The recent announcement from the Federal Government on reduction of battery duty and battery technology which is Lion Lithium Ion Battery which has the best effective charging rate. Madam Chairperson CCP please go thru the battery technology for car and home being used in Pakistan is very costly, absurd, obsolete, environmentally hazardsous, as there is no labelling law for accountability. I shall be delighted to brief CCP on the battery and its advantage to Pakistan with the advanced version of battery import, or the advanced vesion only produced in Pakistan under license from Korean LG etc.
