KE Vows to Reduce Power Shortage with Its Latest Import

Good news for people in Karachi! In a few days time, additional load shedding will end after the installation of a heavy part in K-Electric (KE) Bin Qasim Power Plant.

KE airlifted a heavy part for the Bin Qasim Power plant from Holland. Antovo 124 cargo aircraft was chartered to transport the 41 tonne part to Karachi. The cargo aircraft started its journey on May 15th and landed at Karachi airport just after mid night (pictures).

After fast track Customs clearance, the part was shifted to Bin Qasim Power Plant near Port Bin Qasim. KE Spokesperson Khayyam Siddque told ProPakistani that foreign experts are already in Karachi for the repair of the power generation unit.

“KE paid a lot higher cargo charges than normal to airlift this part. If this part was booked by sea it would have taken 15 to 20 days more to reach Karachi. KE is fully committed to providing electricity to the people of Karachi. “ Khayyam added.

Khayyam hoped that if everything goes right, installation will be completed till May 20 2018. After this, the plant will start producing about 200 MW of electricity.

Currently the city’s demand is about 3000 MW and KE is only able to provide about 2500 MW. After the commissioning the heavy part, the power plant’s short fall will remain 300 MW.

This would put a damper on additional loadshedding in the city and about 61 percent of Karachi will be able to avail electricity without disruptions.
