Huawei’s Honor Play 7 Offers a Tall Display for Under $100

Huawei has unveiled a new ultra-budget smartphone in its ever-expanding line-up, this time with a focus on delivering a longer display akin to its higher-end phones. The price is still under the $100 mark making it a modern entry-level device.

Design and Display

Honor Play 7 makes use of a metal and plastic combo and a design that’s become increasingly popular in the midrange segment. It’ll be available in Blue, Gold and Black.

The front comes with a 5.45-inch 2:1 display, with HD+ resolution which is fine for the price-tag. To add to the FullView display is the curved 2.5D glass, which should make the phone even better-looking. A blue-light filter completes the display spec sheet.

Internals and Storage

Under the hood, you get a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 chipset, with 2 GB RAM, and 16 GB of storage. The storage is expandable via a dedicated microSD slot, along with separate dual-SIM slots.

The OS running is Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI – with features like three-finger screenshot and tap-to-wake. Connectivity is headlined by global LTE coverage, as well as FM Radio and low-energy Bluetooth.

Camera

The camera slots at the back might make you believe that there are dual cameras onboard but the other slot is just for the LED flash.

 

For photography, you get a 13 MP lens on the back with 1080p video and phase-detection autofocus.

The front instead gets a 5 MP unit instead, however, still with an LED flash and a beauty mode.

Battery

Battery capacity is set at 3020 mAh, with standby support of up to 9 days and a power-saving mode.

Pricing starts at a very attractive $95 in its home-market, which makes the phone a good alternative to the Redmi 5A.
