What to Expect from Xiaomi’s Anniversary Event Tomorrow

Xiaomi hasn’t been very active on the flagship front in the last few months. Mi Mix 2S was a refresh of the original Mi Mix 2, nothing much in the name of innovation and new features.

That’s about to change at tomorrow’s Shenzhen event, where Xiaomi is going to debut its latest smartphones as well as other cool stuff.

Here’s what you can expect from Xiaomi’s anniversary event tomorrow.

Mi 8

Mi 8

The flagship everyone has been waiting for will finally be announced at the event tomorrow.

From what we know so far, Xiaomi Mi 8 will have a notch at the front with a large 6.1-inch Full HD+ display. It will be powered by Snapdragon 845 with 6/8 GB RAM and 64/128 GB of internal storage.

Other leaks suggest that it will have 16+20 MP dual cameras on the back in a vertical orientation (like the iPhone X) with optical zoom. Animated emoji (like Animoji in iPhone X) will also be included.

Like the Mi 6, it will not have a headphone jack. Latest reports say that the Mi 8 will also come with dual GPS modules for better navigation.

It will start from Rs. 50,000 in China for the 6 GB/64GB variant, based on rumors, going all the way up to Rs. 60,000 for the 128 GB model.

Mi 8 SE

Reports of a “mini” or “lite” version of the Mi 8 have also surfaced on the interwebs.

Mi 8 SE

It will be called Mi 8 SE and will be the first phone to come with Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 710 AI chipset.

Not much is known about Mi 8 SE. It will have extensive AI support and will also include AI features in the camera as well. Google AR Core apps will also be supported.

Mi Band 3

This one is also rumored and not confirmed like the Mi 8. It’s been two years since Xiaomi launched Mi Band 2, so an updated version is very likely to launch at the anniversary event.

Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, was spotted wearing Mi Band 3 during Black Shark‘s announcement.

The Mi Band 3 will have an improved, bigger display, alongside real-time heart rate monitoring. The fitness band will also have a barometer and better sleep monitoring features.

MIUI 10

MIUI 10

Like Mi 8 SE, not much is known about MIUI 10. The official poster says that MIUI 10 will be “faster than lightning”. This means that it would have more optimizations to enhance the performance of the UI, making it feel more responsive or smooth.

This being MIUI, you can be sure to expect other features as well such as notch support (for the MI 8) and other tidbits.

Other Rumors

Aside from the new stuff mentioned above, which is very likely to launch tomorrow, other phones like the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) and Redmi 6 are also rumored to launch with Mi 8 and MIUI 10.

It seems unlikely that these two will be announced tomorrow, nevertheless, Xiaomi may have other surprises in store for us at the anniversary event.
