Pakistan’s Fatima Zahra Secures Historic Medal at Commonwealth Games

Pakistan has secured its first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after boxer Fatima Zahra advanced to the women’s 60kg semifinals with a dominant victory over New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson.

Fatima outclassed Wilson 5-0 in the quarterfinals, guaranteeing herself at least a bronze medal under the competition’s boxing format, where both losing semifinalists receive bronze medals.

The achievement also makes Fatima Zahra the first Pakistani woman to win a boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games, marking a historic milestone for the country’s boxing program.

The Pakistani boxer produced another composed performance, comfortably defeating her New Zealand opponent to keep her gold medal hopes alive. She will now face Canada’s Marie Al-Ahmadieh in the women’s 60kg semifinal on July 31 at 11:30 pm.

A victory over the Canadian boxer will send Fatima into the gold medal match, while a defeat would see her finish with the bronze medal she has already secured.

Fatima entered the quarterfinals after an equally impressive victory over Lesotho’s Real Ebuoha in the opening round. She dominated that bout from the outset, forcing the referee to stop the contest early due to her overwhelming advantage.

Her latest triumph guarantees Pakistan’s first podium finish of the Games and represents one of the country’s biggest achievements in women’s boxing on the international stage.

All eyes will now be on the semifinal as Fatima Zahra looks to continue her remarkable run and become the first Pakistani woman to reach a Commonwealth Games boxing final.
