PIA’s Air Safari Will be Great for the Tourist Economy of Pakistan

PIA has planned to re-commence Air Safari flight after a gap of almost two decades. Pakistan’s northern areas are blessed with tremendous natural beauty. The scenic Northern areas remain under-utilized from a tourism perspective.

The influx of tourists’ traffic will bring in revenues and opportunities for Northern areas. PIA is committed to expanding tourism in Northern areas of Pakistan including Skardu. With live commentary on board, PIA takes the passengers over the scenic Karakoram range celebrating the mountains, valleys, lakes, and glaciers of the north of Pakistan.

As per international industry practice, PIA flew the inaugural flight with guests from travel, entertainment, social and business circles to promote the service. Even the preliminary interest in the Air Safari promise good revenue for PIA and for Pakistan. By giving travelers an option to have a day tour of the wonders of the north, PIA will be contributing to the tourism economy of Pakistan.

A Great Initiative Marred by Misguided Criticism

One would imagine that Pakistanis would celebrate this historic moment, but instead, we see news appearing on TV News Channels showcasing passengers complaining against the delay in flight and blaming the Air Safari flight and supposed VIP culture, instead of the real reason which was the weather, which is in no one’s hand.

The weather conditions in Islamabad and en route were unfavorable and not conducive to flying, which is why the flight was delayed. The flights to Gilgit and Skardu are subject to weather conditions and this was clearly communicated to passengers. Even on this day, passengers were informed of the delay through SMS messages. Instead of appreciating PIA commitment towards the safety of its passengers, we have an onslaught of media conversation against the VIP culture.

It is hoped that PIA will continue this service and play its role in promoting tourism in Pakistan and contributing towards the national economy and positive image building globally.

  • I guess you don’t read the news paper?
1st flight, worst experience of people who try to utilize this service.

  • Really Great Initiative by PIA. Who won’t like to have a one day tour of northern areas above the snow covered mountains. Pakistani’s in general got the habit of criticizing everything.

    • It’s not about criticising, it’s about PIA management providing free tickets to management’s friends and family. Who wouldn’t like free tickets to see the mountains.
