Pak Railways Announces 25% Discount in Rail Fares & Free Travel for Elderly Citizens

Pakistan Railways has announced an Eid Package with 25 percent reduction in rail fares and free travel for elderly citizens. Five special trains will also be operational to facilitate passengers on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

Spokesperson Pakistan Railways, Duriya Aamir, told that there will be a 25 percent discount for passengers on Eid-ul-Azha. All classes of trains, on the second and third day of Eid, will get a 25 percent discount as well. The decision was made during a meeting headed by Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pakistan Railways, Aftab Akbar.

The spokesperson further said that Pakistan Railways has announced free travel for elderly citizens on the first and second day of Eid-ul-Azha. The free traveling facility will be available on all classes of all trains.

Duriya Aamir further said that citizens over 65 years of age will have to show their original computerized national identity cards (CNIC) in order to acquire tickets.

The railways had announced a 30 percent cut in rail fares during Eid-ul-Fitr, while discounted fare was available on Eid and the next day, but this time the offer is available for the second and third day of Eid-ul-Azha.

A sizeable sum of Rs 19.29 billion has been allocated for operational cost during current 2018-19 against the revised Rs 18.99 billion for 2017-18. This expenditure is beyond its control as already many upward revisions in prices of fuel have taken place in the last few months. Further, to meet heavy rush, railways will attach additional coaches.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways will run five special trains from different cities on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha across the country in a bid to extend maximum facilities to passengers so that they can spend the Islamic festival with their relatives.

Special eid trains will run from Karachi, Quetta, Rawalpindi and Multan while additional bogies will be attached with trains to accommodate more passengers.

According to the details, the first and second special trains will start their journey on 19th of this month from Karachi to Peshawar Cantt and Quetta to Rawalpindi station respectively.

The third special train will start its journey on August 20 from Karachi Cantt to Lahore while fourth special train will start its journey on August 21 from Rawalpindi to Multan Cantt.

The fifth special train will start its journey on August 25 from Multan Cantt to Rawalpindi.
