Acer’s Updated Swift Lineup Features the Thinnest Laptops in the World

Acer has revealed a plethora of new laptops at IFA, yet it’s likely the updated Swift lineup which will garner much of the attention. The new Swift 3, 5 and 7 fall in the mid-to-high end of the market and boast attractive svelte designs with narrow bezels.

This is ultimately the star of the show. Claimed to be the world’s thinnest laptop, similar to the previous Swift 7, the laptop weighs just 1kg and is 10mm thick.

There’s a 14-inch 1080p IPS display at the front, with a 92% screen-to-body ratio and a magnesium build to keep things lightweight.

Under the hood, you get one of the newer 8th-generation Whiskey Lake Core i7 chips. Acer is mum when it comes to more details, however.

Similar to the Swift 7, the larger 15-inch Swift 5 takes the mantle of the world’s thinnest 15-inch laptop. The display is still a 1080p IPS panel, with optional touchscreen, though, with reduced bezels on the sides.

Under the hood, you get an 8th-gen Intel processor – either a Core i5-8265U or Core i7-8565U, with up to 16 GB of DDR4 RAM. For connectivity, you get one USB 3.1 Type-C Gen-2, 2 USB 3.1, and HDMI.

Pricing for the laptop starts at $1099 for the base model.

At the other end of the spectrum is the Swift 3, which comes with a 14-inch 1080p display at the front, weighing just over 3lbs.

Under the hood, you get a Core i3-8145U, Core i5-8265U, or Core i7-8565U processor, with 8 GB of RAM, or 512 GB SSD. There is an optional Nvidia GeForce MX150 graphics, too, as well as up to 512 GB of SSD.

Battery life is expected to last 12 hours, while pricing starts at $799.
