Pakistan-Made Slide App to be Acquired by a Korean Firm

Slide, a popular lockscreen mobile app that serves up curated content on your device, is all set to be acquired by Buzzvil, a South Korean firm that bills itself as the world’s biggest mobile lockscreen platform.

Slide was developed by Junaid Malik and his team from Pakistan in 2016. Since then, it went on to become a leading lockscreen app in both Pakistan and India. In its first year, the mobile app ratcheted more than 5 million downloads from users in the subcontinent. The app was first launched in Pakistan and subsequently in India.

It works by rewarding users in terms of mobile balance when they read content served by Slide on the user’s lockscreen. This has made Slide a cost-effective marketing tool for businesses as well.

Slide is being used by as many as 7 million users as of February 2018. It has already raised $1.2 million in seed funding and an additional $3.6 million in Series A funding.

Slide Gets Acquired by South Korean Firm

Junaid Malik, CEO of Slide, had this to say regarding the acquisition plans:

I tied up with a team in South Korea, and together we launched the product in Pakistan, India and partnered up with Etisalat to launch in Dubai. Recently, we were in talks with Buzzvil who wanted to expand in this region hence the decision to take over Slide.

Junaid believes that this move could help slide with its growth and in raising more funds. As part of the deal, Buzzvil is acquiring Slide’s tech team.

There’s no word on the financial details regarding the acquisition deal. Junaid states that he doesn’t have the green signal to share numbers yet.

Slide’s acquisition by Buzzvil is expected to solidify its position as a leading media platform for mobile lockscreens. In 2017, the company acquired the New York-based Slidejoy, whose product also rewards users by serving up news and ads on lockscreens.
