New Leak Says iPhone Prices Will be Much Higher Than Expected

With the launch of the new iPhones just a few days away, the leaks are heating up as well. According to CNBC, the entry-level variant of the upcoming iPhone will be dubbed the iPhone XC and the prices will be higher compared to last year.

If you recall, this is a throwback to the ill-fated iPhone 5C, which was unveiled in September 2013. That particular phone failed to get as much traction among audiences as Apple expected, in part because of being just $100 cheaper than the much-improved iPhone 5S.

The information comes from the leaked presentation of a Chinese carrier, which could potentially help prove its reliability. However, it’s only a leak and nothing has been confirmed yet, so take this with a grain of salt.

What’s New?

The phone will be accompanied by the iPhone XS and the iPhone XS Max, which might show that the Plus branding is gone. However, that is not all, as the leak also put spotlight on the pricing of the phones.

We’ve already had a recent leak regarding pricing of the iPhones, this one seems to contradict it. Rather than the $699 price tag, the new iPhone XC is said to start at $849 for the base model. It is expected to come in a bunch of colors (Red, White and Blue) which won’t be available for the rest of the variants.

The standard iPhone XS, which was thought to be the “iPhone 8” of the upcoming generation in terms of specs, will now be priced at $999, similar to the current iPhone X. The iPhone XS Max will cost even more than that.

Apple raising the price of the mid-level iPhone to the iPhone X level doesn’t seem too plausible, especially after the success of the iPhone X and rising manufacturing costs. More details will emerge from Apple’s event on September 12th.
