Nokia is Making a Gaming Phone

Nokia, which has been capitalizing well on its nostalgia-focused phones, is apparently going back to its drawing board, looking to enter the gaming phone market.

The news comes courtesy of the company’s Indian Twitter account, which released a 10 second teaser of the upcoming phone with the message: Stay tuned for a phone you can #GameOn.

The teaser itself leaves little too imagination, showing content from a shooting game. It ends with a teaser showing a phone caricature surrounded by three lights.

Unfortunately, the official tweet has been deleted. But we do have a video to show you either way, as someone posted it on YouTube as well. The video quality isn’t so good though.

The phone might be one of the recently leaked ones, including the Nokia 9 and the X7, which may launch in international markets as the 8.1 Plus and 7.1 Plus.

Unfortunately, not much is known regarding the availability and the launch of this phone, as the account didn’t mention any upcoming event.

Gaming Opportunity

With the release of Fortnite and PUBG Mobile, gaming could be one of the bigger points of differentiation in the future, and Nokia’s upcoming release could make use of that.

During its heyday, the gaming phone was another one of the territories which Nokia dabbled in, with it’s N-Gage phones. It released multiple generations of the phones, including the infamous taco-phone, before thankfully bidding adieu to hardware.

N-Gage continued to live on in a bunch of phones, including the N81, which came with dedicated gaming buttons. Despite being continued as a service for a while, it is fair to say nostalgia is not the only thing Nokia can target here.
