The health department of Multan’s strange and irrational order has put the lady health workers (LHWs) and lady health visitors (LHVs) of the district in an awkward position.
The department issued cellular SIM cards to each health worker but did not bother to provide credit to use these numbers.
And now the department wants every health worker to be connected to the internet using these numbers. The department has neither provided the health workers credit nor cell phones to use the SIM.
Notwithstanding all this, the department has now issued show cause notices to several LHWs and LHVs for not using the SIMs.
The health workers, who are being paid meagre salary, says they are in a weak financial position to afford this ‘facility’ if the department did not support them.
“We draw only Rs 17000/month in terms of salary, how can we pay Rs 2000 per month for mobile internet?,” said a troubled LHO while speaking to ProPakistani on condition of anonymity.
“We have also written to the ministry of health and asked them to intervene, but we have not yet received any response from them,” she added.
The Multan Health Department has issued SIM cards to over 2000 LHWs and LHVs in the city in a bid to streamline the health workers and visitors’ network.
Lady health workers are basically drawing worse salary than a laborer.
