Dam Fund: Pakistan Embassy in KSA Collects Rs62m in One Night

The overseas Pakistanis are taking keen interests in the Chief Justice of Pakistan and Prime Minister Imran Khan joint initiative for raising funds to build large water reservoirs and dams in the country to avoid the looming water shortage crisis.

The overwhelming response of the overseas Pakistanis to Prime Minister Imran Khan’s appeal to donate generously in the dam fund was manifested from the donations and contributions received by the Pakistani embassy in Riyadh.

Inran Khan was in Saudi Arabia for an official two-day visit, and the day he returned home, Pakistan’s embassy in Riyadh accumulated USD 465000 (Rs62 million) for Diamir Bhasha and Mohmand dam funds overnight.

The Foreign Ministry had instructed the embassy officials to organise a fund-raiser event in Riyadh which went very successful.

PM Imran Khan’s official Facebook page was first to break the news on social media.

Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi received a cheque of the same amount from Pakistan’s ambassador in Saudi Arabia last night.

The latest addition of the amount will cross the seven-billion-mark. So far, the dam fund has received funding of more than Six billion and eighty-nine crore rupees.

How to Donate For the Dam Fund?

The dam fund was established on the orders of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar.

Fund accounts have been opened in all the commercial and micro-finance banks and field offices. These banks are receiving donations in forms of cash, cheques, pay orders and demand drafts across the country.

For the ease of the citizens, an SMS donation service has also been introduced where one can contribute as low as Rs10 to the CJP’s dam fund by typing “dam” by sending the SMS to 8000. The amount will be deducted from the phone’s credit.
