ECC Approves Rs. 17 Billion Support Package for PIA

The government has approved Rs. 17.022 billion in terms of a support package for the loss-making Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

The decision was taken on Monday during the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) meeting under the chair of Finance Minister Asad Umar.

The committee meeting convened to take up gas load management plan made vital decisions.

During the meeting, ECC decided to allocate gas supply for the SNGPL and SSGCL from the two new gas fields has also made its decision on the matter.

The member of the committee decided to allocate 10 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) gas to given to Sui Southern Gas Company from the Bitrism field. Whereas Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) will get 12MMCFD gas from the Dhok Hussain fields.

This winter, especially month from December to February are expected to experience gas shortfall due to excessive consumption.

The new government had committed uninterrupted gas supply to the industrial sector. This promise poses serious challenges for the PTI-led government to maintain gas supply for domestic consumers.
