Huawei Plans to Rival Alexa & Google With Its Own AI Voice Assistant

Huawei is planning to build another AI-powered virtual assistant for other countries, as it already has Xiaoyi for China in the AI Cube and the smartphones.

The company’s Consumer Business CEO, Richard Yu, made this revelation in an interview with CNBC. He told that Huawei is planning to roll out its voice assistant outside China.

“In the beginning, we are mainly using Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa”, he said.

We need more time to build our AI (artificial intelligence) services … Later we will expand this outside of China.

However, he did not specify the languages the assistant is going to support.

For now, Huawei is using Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant for smartphones sold outside China. Also, its AI Cube is its latest launch in 2018 IFA event in Berlin.

Yu said that the company will retain its partnership with Google and Amazon in the future. It implies that the company, despite making its own AI assistant, will continue providing products powered by Google Assistant and Alexa.
