Redmi Pro 2 Could be The 48 MP Xiaomi Phone We’re Waiting For

Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 has made an early appearance on the web thanks to a tipster on Weibo.

Xiaomi’s Redmi series is traditionally focused on pleasing the mid-range crowd. The phones usually have an affordable price tag with impressive battery life and reliable day-to-day performance. The Mi-series is where Xiaomi usually flexes its photography chops. However, this time, Xiaomi might just change that trend with the Redmi Pro 2.

As per the leak, the phone is going to have a midrange Snapdragon 675 SoC, and possibly an impressive 48 MP camera.

Xiaomi’s upcoming phone is the successor to the Xiaomi Redmi Pro launched back in 2016. It was among the first dual-cam phones and managed to deliver a fairly decent photography experience.

As for the Redmi Pro 2, it’s also likely to be photography-focused, mainly because of its SD675 chipset, which has been designed to enhance camera features and lens performance thanks to its improved ISP.

Additionally, Xiaomi on a number of occasions confirmed that the company is developing a 48 MP camera. At the Qualcomm 4G Summit back in October, Xiaomi VP also suggested a 48 MP model paired with an SD675.

Selfie Camera Hole

Another report suggests that the phone is likely to have a hole in the top area of the display to house a selfie camera. There’s no confirmation whether the camera will be in the middle or on the sides like the Huawei Nova 4, though this indicates trimmed bezels and a full-screen experience.

As for the rear sensors, Xiaomi might probably use a multi-cam setup, possibly in a triple camera arrangement.

We can expect the phone to come in different storage and RAM variants, a 6 GB variant is likely to be available, as the Redmi Pro 2 can be classed as a high-tier midrange device.
