The government is planning on tabling a Journalists Protection Bill in the National Assembly, the Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhary told the media on Tuesday.
The journalists have been prone to violence all across the country, and the repeated negligence from big media houses regarding their workers are the reasons behind this initiative by the government.
Fawad Chaudhary said that the journalists will be awarded Insaf Health Card, allowing them to avail medical facilities up to Rs 5 lac in case of any emergency. The new bill will be presented in the lower house of the Parliament and will be aimed at ensuring the security of the journalists throughout Pakistan.
Talking to an award ceremony in Karachi, the Federal Minister said that the record of all the ads given to media houses will be publicly available on Press Information Department (PID) website to ensure transparency. He also said that the new journalists could do well only with new ideas.
The minister further reiterated that a media technology school will be established very soon.
