Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has revealed that a new digital verification system using facial recognition has been introduced for pensioners to access their funds through the National Database and Registration Authority’s (NADRA) Pak ID mobile app.
This has effectively eliminated the need for them to visit banks for authentication.
According to the minister, the new system will allow elderly pensioners to complete their verification from home through biometric facial recognition. With this initiative, pensioners will no longer need to make repeated trips to banks, making the process more convenient, efficient, and accessible.
Under the new system, pensioners will be able to complete their mandatory identity verification (commonly referred to as proof of life) through facial recognition using their mobile devices.
The verification process is expected to draw on NADRA’s existing national biometric database.
Traditionally, pensioners in Pakistan have been required to physically visit banks at regular intervals to confirm their status and continue receiving pension payments. This process often creates difficulties, especially for elderly citizens and the general rural population.
The new digital mechanism will reduce queues at banks and minimize administrative delays.
The system can now enable pensioners to complete verification from home using the Pak ID app, making the process faster, more secure, and more convenient.

It is a great step forward taken by NADRA & will help lot of elderly pensioners apart from unnecessary load on bank seen twice yearly( in the month of March & Sep) to prove that they were alive by presenting themselves to banker !
Hope banks will accept this digital method of verification of “proof of life” for the pensioners!

Bank acts whatever State Bank asked to do so under the instructions on ministry of finance. MoF needs to issue formal instructions and revised Pensioner SOP instead of only announcing on media.
Excellent. But it should have been done as early as when biometric devices came to Pakistan, as this class, this age is far deserving for such tech advantages than anybody else.

Ministry of Finance or State Bank need to upload how to complete this process on net (FB, Utube, Insta etc)
Tried this feature last time but its still required to do fingerprint verification alongside face verification, so its doesn’t work for elderly people (70+) because there fingerprint doesn’t work.
A good step for pensioners because fingerprinting plus life certificate verified by gazetted officers would have to be provided to banks twice a year. Sometimes fingerprints are not verified by NADIRA. It is appreciated if face recognition and verification is accepted by NADIRA and banks.
The credit goes to myself. I have this case for 2x years for my mother. She was fed of going bank. And biometric failed every time.

No such Easy for people over 60, as most of them unfamiliar with smart mobile apps, while some are quite segregated and lonely that they have no other person to help them.

This method is not working I used it couple months ago in Islamabad for my dad account verification and the bank staff said this method did not work here you have to verify through biometric in HBL bank.if this method did not work in Islamabad then for the rest of the country it’s just a trash. Before using it I call nadra help line and they said it would work definitely but when I visit the bank at that same day they reject it.

I hope the process now relies only on face verification and does not require fingerprint verification as well. If face verification alone is sufficient, that would be very helpful. Otherwise, it remains difficult for many elderly individuals and others whose fingerprints cannot be properly recognized.
