Poorly done repair and maintenance work of two power plants has reportedly cost Rs. 51.4 billion to the national exchequer.
The revelation was made in Auditor General of Pakistan’s (AGP) report on Friday.
According to the report, two power plants, Nandi Pur, and Thermal Power Station Muzzaffargarh were kept shut down for an unnecessarily long time in the name of ‘repair and maintenance procedures.’
The procedure, as per the report, affected the production of electricity by 3.7 billion units which translates into a loss of Rs. 51.38 billion.
The report further explains that the Thermal Power Station of Muzaffargarh was ‘deliberately’ closed over 3270 hours for ‘maintenance.’ This, longer than usual, closure of the power plant disrupted 3.56 billion units.

Similarly, Nandipur Power Plant also remained shut for 15 days and caused another 140 million units to the national grid.
The AGP in his report has recommended an investigation into the matter to identify those responsible behind the criminal negligence.
The Power Division, however, rejected the report claiming that the closure of power plants was as per schedule for maintenance purposes
