Here’s Why Abdul Qadir’s Son Quit Pakistan Cricket for Australia

Usman Qadir, who is the son of legendary leg-spinner Abdul Qadir, had announced that he decided to quit Pakistan in favor of playing in Australia.

After briefly playing first-class cricket in Pakistan and failing to make an impact, Usman claimed that cricket-politics kept him from getting the chances he deserved.

Harboring ambitions to follow in his father’s footsteps and play for Pakistan, Usman was left disappointed and publicly called out the structural problems which exist in Pakistan cricket.

There is politics. I did not get any chances [in Pakistan].

Heartbroken and shattered, Usman decided to call it a day and quit playing cricket in Pakistan and move to Australia.

No more Pakistan. I want to play for Australia definitely, 100%, because I didn’t get any chances in Pakistan.

Last week, the 25-year-old made his debut in Western Australia where he managed to pick 3 wickets for 50 runs. The commentators praised Usman for his wrong-un, which is of course inherited from his father.

My aim is to perform well in Australia. Hopefully, I will get citizenship in two years’ time. My goal is to play for Australia at the 2020 World T20.

Although this is a sad situation which has unfolded, it packs a lot of reality. Pakistan’s domestic cricket is plagued with favoritism, nepotism and corruption. Players are often robbed of their dreams to play for Pakistan because of the very reason.
