Punjab Literacy Department has started an education center for transgender individuals in Lodhran.
According to District Education Officer, there are 60 adult literacy centers in Lodhran. However, there was no such school designated for transgender persons. Therefore, the department inaugurated the first one on February 11.
As per the details, 20 transgender persons have enrolled in the center. These individuals are getting basic education in Urdu, English, and arithmetic.

The department has hired a Quran teacher to teach the students to read the Holy book.
It is pertinent to mention here that last year, the School Education Department (SED) in Punjab directed the district education authorities to ensure that transgender children are treated equally in both public and private schools in the province.
The department also issued a notification to this effect on August 9, 2018.
