CM Buzdar Announces Social Protection Policy and Welfare Programs

Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has announced that the government will roll out a new social protection policy to improve the quality of life of the marginalized segments of the society.

Buzdar also approved initiation of different projects for the welfare of elders, women, and children. The CM gave these approvals in a board meeting of the Punjab Social protection Authority (PSPA).

He said that the authority’s role is important to achieve the welfare of needy communities. The meeting was apprised that one-window welfare counters will be established at e-khidmat centers to facilitate the deserving elderly, children, and women.

These counters will contain all the PSPA-provided services. The meeting also discussed the proposal of commencing ‘Bahimmat Buzurg’ program for people exceeding 65 years of age. It also considered giving out monthly pension to these people.

The CM instructed to finalize the welfare program for senior citizens aged more than 65 years. Apart from the welfare program, the meeting deliberated on the proposal of starting ‘Hum Qadam’ project for the differently abled persons.

In the meeting, it was also decided to start a special project on the directions of the Supreme Court for the wellbeing of the transgender community. The project involves providing facilities like healthcare and free education, screening, psychological and legal assistance and shelter to transgender children.

It further surfaced in the meeting that PSPA has submitted an application to Pakistani Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to impose a ban on the mocking of transgender community in TV programs.
