Careem Captain Shot Dead in DHA Karachi

A Careem driver has been shot dead in Defense Housing Authority (DHA), Karachi.

The incident took place on Saturday near a school on Street-8, Phase-I in DHA. The driver, named Saleem Thaheem, was 40 years old and was found dead inside a car near Dhuktaran-i-Awam school.

According to Clifton Superintendent Police (SP) Suhai Aziz, the family has said that Saleem had left his home in Azam Basti on Saturday morning.

DHA authorities originally reported the incident at 6:45 am, saying that a body was found at the above-mentioned location. The police official said that Saleem was shot twice.

She also ruled out the possibility of a robbery as the driver’s wallet containing Rs. 5,000 and his two mobile phones were with him.

The SP said that the victim’s mother and wife are in shock and are unsure about a possible motive behind the killing. Nevertheless, the son-in-law of the victim has told that they had no enmity with anyone.

According to the official, the victim belonged to the Sanghar district. The police are investigating the matter. A CCTV footage of the crime scene has been taken, but it is blurred. However, it shows that the assailants shot Saleem from behind when he was inside the car.

It needs to be noted here that several similar incidents have occurred in the past. A few months ago, Careem drivers were being targeted by unidentified armed men. In March 2018, a Careem driver was gunned down and the incident was reported by none other than the ride-hailing service itself.
