Govt. Removes Acting MD SNGPL Over Higher Gas Bills

The government has removed acting Managing Director of Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Company Limited (SNGPL) Amer Tufail for issuing higher gas bills to more than three million consumers during winters.

SNGPL has issued a notification in this regard, stating the board has decided to remove the incumbent MD Amir Tufail. Mahmood Ahmad Zia has taken the additional charge of SNGPL MD.

This is the second SNGPL MD removed by the current government in the past few months. Earlier, the abnormally higher bills caused strong protest from the consumers. The government formed a four-member committee to investigate the gas overbilling issue.

Earlier, on January 8, Prime Minister Imran Khan removed the managing directors of both Sui Northern and Sui Southern companies when he received a report of the fact-finding committee on gas crisis.

The premier directed to reimburse the additional amount charged from the gas consumers and asked to identify the person responsible for the overcharged bills.
