PIA Increases Baggage Pricing for Domestic Flights

Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has increased its extra baggage cost to Rs. 5000 + CED (Central Excise Duty) for a 28Kg piece, an increase of over 200 Rs. per Kg. The policy change has been implemented from 1st April on all domestic flights.

In the past, PIA used to charge around Rs 100 per Kg on baggage exceeding the 20Kg limit.

The free baggage allowance for domestic flights continues to be 20kg for economy, 25Kg for economy plus and 30 Kg (2 pieces combined weight) for Business class travelers.

PIA spokesperson said that the price hike was due to the recent rise in international oil prices.

Baggage particulars, terms and conditions are a part of Article 8 of the contract and conditions of carriage available on the Airline’s website as well.

The move will indirectly increase the cost of air traveling for domestic passengers. It is feared that the move will trigger a similar price increase from other local airlines.
