Vivo joined the triple-sensor camera trend in December 2018 with the launch of its flagship smartphone, Vivo NEX. Later on, Vivo started using the tech in their mid-range phones as well, with the Vivo V15, and now the Y17.
The phone is now officially available in India via an offline and online retailer Poorvika mobile. Its triple sensor camera and large battery are its main attractions.
Design and Display
In terms of design, the phone has a glasstic finish and gradient colors on the back. The triple camera sensor is set up vertically on the top left with a dual LED flash underneath. The phone also features a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
On the front, we see a dewdrop notch for the selfie camera. the phone features 6.35-inch HD+ IPS display with a 19.3:9 aspect ratio, which is not seen in many phones.
The screen has a 720 x 1544 pixels resolution and 268 ppi pixel density which honestly, is a big turn off considering the other specifications it boasts.
Internal and Storage
The phone is powered by a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC with a PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The SoC is built on a 12nm FinFET process which has eight cores with a maximum frequency of 2.3 GHz.
The phone has only one variant with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB built-in memory. It is suspected that more variants with different options will be introduced later on either under the umbrella of Vivo Y17 or as another model. We are unsure at this point.
The phone runs on Android 9.0 Pie topped with Funtouch OS. The phone also comes with an ultra-gaming mode, which directs all the resources to the game for a better gaming experience.
Cameras
The biggest selling point of this phone is the triple sensor rear camera that features a 13 MP main sensor, an 8 MP ultra-wide sensor that claims 120 degrees field of view (FOV) but due to distortions, the user will have 108 degrees FOV. The third sensor is a 2 MP depth sensor.
The selfie camera is a single sensor 20 MP snapper.
Battery and Pricing
The phone features a huge battery with 5,000 mAh capacity and 18W fast charging. This is the largest battery Vivo has installed in any of its phones.
