Cinepax Receives Overwhelming Response for StarzPlay Short Film Competition

STARZ PLAY by Cinepax, is a subscription-based video on demand (SVOD) service that offers an impressive library of blockbuster Hollywood movies, award-winning box sets, documentaries, kids’ entertainment and Pakistani content.

After the successful launch of STARZ PLAY by Cinepax, Pakistan’s favorite entertainment company launched STARZ PLAY Short Film Competition (SSFC) on the 26th of March with the sole intent to bring the young and aspiring filmmakers into the limelight and give them the opportunity to produce STARZ PLAY Originals and accelerate their careers.

This initiative has taken a global reach and an intense local interest attracting more than 2,000 submissions overall and over 125 entries from within Pakistan making the SSFC the biggest film competition in Pakistan.

Arif Baigmohamed, Chairman of Cinepax Group said;

STARZ PLAY by Cinepax is one of the best platforms for aspiring filmmakers to showcase their original content. Our team has conducted an extensive drive across top film schools in the country, to enable our upcoming generation of filmmakers; and highlight that there are immense opportunities in the country to showcase their talent and hard work.

STARZ PLAY Short Film Competition (SSFC) aims to provide a platform for emerging filmmakers to showcase their talent and share their work with an audience eager to see good content. All entries will be judged by a panel of film and media experts and will then be uploaded on the STARZ PLAY by Cinepax app.

This offers all our contestants with the chance to promote their films on a globally recognized streaming service. Shortlisted films will then be screened at the final event on the big screen, and the winner will be decided by a jury of judges from the entertainment and film industry. The winner will get an exclusive contract to produce a STARZ PLAY by Cinepax original web series.

University Workshops

Although this competition is free for all to participate in, we have tried to keep our focus on University students as they will mold the future of the film and media industry. We have been to a few universities such as BNU, UOL, LUMS, IQRA University and IVS to interact and engage with students interested in the SSFC.

Our experiences in each university have been quite overwhelming where students not only submitted short films they have already worked on but were excited to start working on new projects from scratch especially for the competition.

Our most recent visit was at The Indus Valley School of Art and Culture where the students actively participated in the discussion. They were ecstatic about the chance to enter such a competition and we were very encouraged by their response and interest. Here are a few sneak peeks from our visit at IVS!
