Samsung Launches Galaxy M40 With Triple Cameras at a Reasonable Price

Even though Samsung is the top smartphone maker globally, it was losing the mid-range market to various Chinese brands.

Thus, at the start of this year, Samsung streamlined its objectives to tackle a more price-effective smartphone lineup and launched the online-only M-series. The line-up has been a huge success and now Samsung has decided to capitalize on it with the fourth M-series smartphone Galaxy M40.

The phone comes with praiseworthy specifications at a reasonable price of $288. Samsung Galaxy M40 was previously launched in China under the name Galaxy A60, but it is being launched worldwide under the M-series.

Design and Display

Samsung Galaxy M40 comes with a glass body with a gradient finish and is available in two colors: midnight blue and seawater blue. In terms of rear camera setting and fingerprint sensor, Samsung has followed the general trend; we don’t see anything exciting design-wise at the back.

However, at the front, we cannot help but notice that there is no traditional earpiece. Samsung has used screen sound technology which transforms the display itself into an earpiece or a loudspeaker.

Another new feature added to the phone that was not seen in the line-up is the punch hole on the top left of the display for housing the selfie camera.

The phone sports a 6.3-inch Full HD+ Infinity-O PLS display, unlike its predecessor that came with a Super AMOLED display.

Internals and Storage

Under the hood, we have an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset accompanied by 6 GB RAM and 128 GB built-in storage. The storage can be expanded up to 512 GB with a memory card.

Samsung Galaxy M40 runs on Samsung OneUI flavored Android 9.0 Pie. Apart from these basic features, the phone comes with Dolby Atmos support and NFC. Unfortunately, the M40 lacks a headphone jack.

Looks like Samsung is finally ditching the headphone jack in its mid-range phones and is embracing the market trend.

Cameras

Camera wise, the phone goes pretty well or maybe beyond its low-price tag. At the back, it has a vertically aligned triple sensor camera.

The main camera is a 32 MP sensor with phase detection autofocus, followed by an 8 MP ultra-wide lens and a 5 MP depth sensor. The rear camera is capable of recording in up to 4K resolution and slow-motion videos at 240 fps.

At the front, the M40 has a single 16 MP camera housed in the punch hole.

Battery and Pricing

The whole package is fueled by a 3500 mAh battery with 15W fast charging support using a USB-C connector.

The phone will be available for sale by 18th June with all the popular retailers at $288.
