Player Snatches $80 GTA 6 Copy for Just $2

One player has managed to pre-order the $79.99 Standard Edition of Grand Theft Auto 6 for only $2.12 after combining forgotten Best Buy rewards with an additional discount.

The player saved $77.87 in total, effectively receiving a discount of more than 97% on one of the most anticipated games of the year. However, the method depended on rewards already earned from an earlier purchase rather than a widely available GTA 6 promotion.

Forgotten Console Rewards

Reddit user tangyredapple said they had purchased a PlayStation 5 Pro from Best Buy several months earlier to prepare their gaming setup for GTA 6.

The player used a Best Buy credit card for the console purchase but later forgot about the cash-back rewards accumulated through the transaction.

After GTA 6 pre-orders opened, they checked their account and discovered that the available reward certificates could cover most of the game’s price.

The player combined the reward certificates with a 10% discount coupon, reducing the Standard Edition’s $79.99 price to just $2.12.

They advised other GTA 6 buyers to check credit-card rewards, retailer loyalty accounts and unused cash-back balances before paying the full price.

People who recently purchased a console, television or other expensive gaming equipment may already have enough rewards to reduce the cost of the game significantly. However, the exact discounts available will depend on each retailer and customer account.

Other Players Use Microsoft Rewards

The Best Buy customer is not the only player using reward programs to avoid paying the full GTA 6 price.

Some Xbox users have accumulated Microsoft Rewards points by completing activities across Microsoft services, including searches through Bing. These points can be redeemed for Microsoft or Xbox credit and used toward a GTA 6 pre-order.

At least one player reportedly collected enough points to cover the entire $99.99 Ultimate Edition, although earning that many rewards can take a considerable amount of time.

Standard and Ultimate Editions

Rockstar has priced the GTA 6 Standard Edition at $79.99, while the Ultimate Edition costs $99.99. The game is available to pre-order for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S ahead of its November 19, 2026, release.

The Ultimate Edition includes additional vehicles, weapons, clothing, businesses and other content connected to Jason and Lucia’s story.

Only the Standard Edition is being offered through retailers as a physical code-in-box version. Despite the physical packaging, it will not contain a game disc and will instead include a digital download code.

Customers who purchase the Standard Edition can later buy the Ultimate Edition Upgrade through the PlayStation or Xbox digital storefronts.

GTA 6 Release Details

Rockstar opened GTA 6 pre-orders globally on June 25. The game will launch on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, while pre-loading will begin on November 12.

The $2.12 purchase does not reveal a secret GTA 6 discount available to everyone. Instead, it shows how retailer certificates, credit-card rewards and coupons can be combined to reduce the cost of an expensive new release.
