The World Bank has approved a grant of $280 million so that Pakistan’s climate change ministry can establish ten more air quality monitoring stations in Lahore.
This was revealed by the Advisor to Prime Minister on Climate Change, Malik Amin Aslam, on Thursday while speaking to the state-owned news agency.
He told that the financial aid okayed for the Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab, will not only be used for air monitoring but also for the department’s upgradation and resource development.

“The World Bank will finance US$200 million out of the total cost where the provincial government will give the rest of US$80 million,” he added.
It should be mentioned that last year the Climate Change Ministry had set up ten mobile Ambient Air Quality Stations (AAQS) for monitoring air quality in Islamabad and other major cities of the country.
The initiative was taken under the Environmental Monitoring System (EMS) project, considering the rising air pollution in Pakistan.
