The Islamabad Capital Police will expand its manpower by 69 percent after the government created more than 8,000 new posts to address staff shortages and strengthen key divisions.
Police officials said 8,046 personnel will be recruited in separate phases, with the first phase already underway. For the first time, the force will hire staff on a cadre-wise basis.
The police currently have a sanctioned strength of 11,654, while 9,754 personnel are in service. The new recruitment drive will increase operational capacity across the Operations, Logistics, Security, Safe City Islamabad Authority and Law and Order divisions.
Officials said the Counter Terrorism Department, Islamabad Traffic Police, Special Protection Unit and Capital Patrol will also receive fresh staff. The first phase includes 1,725 constables and assistant sub-inspectors for the Operations, Logistics and Security divisions.
In the next phases, the force will recruit personnel for the Capital Patrol, Law and Order Division, CTD, SPU and traffic police. Officials said future hiring will continue on a cadre-wise basis, and personnel will remain within their assigned units until retirement or the prescribed age limit.
They said the new system will create a specialized workforce for each division and prevent transfers to other wings. The government has also fixed age limits for field duties in the CTD, Law and Order Division and Capital Patrol, while older personnel will be moved to other roles.
