Leading automobile company Toyota is going to add two key security features – automatic engine shut off and auto-park – to its upcoming cars soon.
The Japanese automaker said that the new features will be included in all their cars manufactured from 2020.
Wondering how these features work?
According to Toyota’s official statement, the engine will shut off automatically if it’s left running for a predetermined amount of time and the car is stationary.
Similarly, if the driver leaves the car without applying the parking brake, “it will automatically shift and/or apply the parking brake.”
The new features are being considered as important safety updates as people often leave their cars with the ignition on in the garage.
Speaking of the significance of auto-park update, you might recall Star Trek actor Anton Yelchin’s death, which was caused due to an unfortunate rollaway accident in 2016.
Although Toyota vehicles give visual and audible warnings if the car is on or in gear/Drive mode, these upcoming features are supposed to add on to them to improve their safety.
We’ll have to wait until 2020 to see which cars get these safety features first.
