Xiaomi is (Finally) Going to Add App Drawer and Shortcuts to MIUI

Xiaomi’s MIUI is one of the few Android skins that still lack an app drawer, forcing users to rely on third-party launchers. That’s about to change soon with Xiaomi actually testing an app drawer in MIUI alongside app shortcuts.

With the latest alpha build of the MIUI launcher, with version 4.10.6.1025-06141703, we are finally getting an app drawer.

Tapping the button in the middle of the app bar opens up the app drawer, and tapping on the arrow at the top of the screen in the drawer closes it. Swiping up and down doesn’t work for accessing the drawer.

When the app drawer is opened, recently used apps are placed at the top with all of the rest listed, as usual, in alphabetical order. You can use your phone’s back button to close the app drawer as well.

Moreover, the quick actions app shortcuts, which were introduced back in Android 7.0 Nougat, are finally making its way into MIUI.

The new MIUI launcher is still in its early stages of development which means that we can expect it to get refined over time. For now, the launcher may not be very stable or might crash during usage, so it is recommended that you don’t use it as your default launcher.

If you still want to give it a try, you can download it from here. Do note that unlike the POCO Launcher, this launcher is limited only to Xiaomi/Redmi smartphones.
