The Ministry of Law and Justice has completed a draft to introduce amendments in the cybercrime law in a bid to prevent the wrong use of social media.
Minister for Law and Justice, Barrister Farogh Naseem, said that the new rules concerning cybercrime are being chalked out and will be presented before the cabinet after finalization.
He revealed that the amendments in the said law are being drafted upon the directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, who ordered to work on the prevention of social media’s wrong use.
Naseem added that the amendments will help fill the gaps and flaws in the existing law while improving the prevalent situation. He underlined the need for balancing the cybercrime law while saying that the basic human rights and freedom of expression should also be considered.
While admitting that the freedom of expression should not be restricted, he said that fake and anti-state news should be discouraged. The minister further said that he cannot reveal details about the new rules until they get approval.
