Samsung’s Galaxy Fold Redesign is Complete: Report

Samsung has finally completed a two-month redesign of the Galaxy Fold, fixing the screen issues that delayed its release. This was reported by Bloomberg today, citing anonymous sources.

The world’s largest smartphone maker is in the final stages of production for the Galaxy Fold, but they haven’t finalized a release date just yet, said anonymous people familiar with the matter.

The Redesign

News that Samsung has already fixed the Galaxy Fold isn’t exactly new. Last month, insiders talked about how Samsung has decided to stretch the sensitive and critical protective film around the entire screen and tuck it under the bezels to make it impossible to peel off with just a fingernail. It also reportedly shrunk the opening at the hinges to block ingress of particles.

The hinge has undergone additional tweaking to make it flush with the display, and push the film up when the device is opened. This supposedly has two benefits. One, it should make the protective film feel harder and not be mistaken for a mere screen protector, and it can supposedly reduce creasing at the fold.

No Launch Date in Sight Still

Even though the phone is ready at Samsung, the question still remains, when will it launch again? Company execs are still undecided on when’s the best time for it, as the Galaxy Fold will undoubtedly steal the spotlight from any other product that will launch near it.

The Galaxy Note 10 will be revealed at Samsung’s Unpacked event in Brooklyn on August 7th, with the same sources saying that we won’t get a new date for the Fold at that time.

Hopefully, it’ll be released somewhere around September or October this year.
