Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has confiscated thousands of kilograms of rotten meat while it was entering Lahore.
PFA Director General Muhammad Usman said that the food authority acted on a tip-off in the wee hours of Friday to intercept two vehicles carrying a huge quantity of dead animals for selling it in the metropolis. The meat was being supplied from Gujranwala to Lahore.
During the operation, PFA also busted a ring of butchers involved in the selling of hazardous meat in the provincial capital. He said that four butchers were arrested and were handed over to the police and a case has been registered against them.
DG PFA said the confiscated meat was incinerated at a dumping site as per the eco-friendly policy.
The director general added that the use of dead animal meat is extremely hazardous for health and may lead to fatal diseases.
“We are bringing all available resources into use to assure the provision of healthy and safe food in the market according to the directives of Chief Minister Usman Buzdar,” he concluded.
