Punjab Govt Launches an Anti Vehicle Theft Mobile App for Police

In an attempt to reduce vehicle theft in the province, Punjab Govt has taken a tech-savvy approach. The government has launched an anti-theft mobile application that lets police officers check the details of stolen vehicles anywhere at any time.

The Anti Vehicle Lifting System (AVLS) app allows police officers to access a provincial database of vehicles which have either been reported as stolen, snatched, under-investigation, recovered, under forensic testing or are in some sort of a court case.

Punjab police have reported that the data for vehicles in 36 districts, which were reported in various crimes at the police stations, has been centralized and added to the database.

Checking for Stolen Vehicles

Hence, whenever a vehicle is stolen somewhere in the province and reported to the police, the officers will upload its particulars onto the central database through the mobile application.

This will help police officers check the details of stolen vehicles by simply adding the registration number of the vehicle in the app. It will also help them track them down without having to go through time-consuming manual procedures.

The government is also giving limited access to the app to the general public. This will let you upload the details of your stolen vehicle immediately without having to report it to a nearby police station.

Also Works Outside Punjab

Sources further revealed that the application will be useful outside of the province as well since many vehicles which are stolen in Punjab, particularly those in and around Rawalpindi, are smuggled to different parts of the country.

It is currently unclear whether the app has satellite-based global positioning or a tracking system to track vehicles.

According to the data shared by Punjab police, authorities have registered a total of 7,907 cases of vehicle theft across the province from January to May 2019, and out of those 2,941 cases have been solved. Out of the remaining cases, 4,174 are still under investigation, 416 cases are untraced and 323 were dropped altogether.
