The Decision to Change the Captain Rests With the PCB: Sarfaraz Ahmed

Pakistan captain, Sarfaraz Ahmed has left the captaincy decision up to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

In a press conference after landing in Karachi, the 32-year-old expressed his desire to continue captaining the side across formats, however, the ball is in PCB’s court.

It’s not that I’m saying I refuse to resign. All I’m saying is the decision rests with the PCB, the same way as the decision to appoint me captain was taken by them. I’m sure they’ll take the decision that’s best for Pakistan.

Pakistan finished on 11 points, on par with New Zealand, with just 3 losses from 9 matches. Poor net run rate meant that Pakistan had to exit despite having the same number of wins as the 4th ranked New Zealand. The wicket-keeper batsman came under heavy criticism following the team’s crushing defeat against India, due to his own performance and his on-field yawning.

The decision on his captaincy will be taken shortly after the coaches and cricket committee will submit their reports on the team’s performance. However, as things stand, Sarfaraz looks set to continue leading the side for now.
