Sony is Working on a Rollable Smartphone [Rumor]

A few months back, foldable phones from Samsung and Huawei took the market by a storm, unfortunately, we never got to see the ideas properly implemented. Now, as we wait for the foldable phones from both the companies, we’re hearing the news that Sony is working on a foldable phone too.

The smartphone is expected to use LG’s rollable display panel that was demoed at the CES 2018. Also, if I recall, we got a tip that LG is supplying Sony with flexible screens a few weeks ago. Other than that, we have also seen patents from Sony detailing how rollable or foldable phone screens could work.

Anyhow, the rumor came from Max J. on Twitter. According to him, he has genuine intel about what Sony is working on.

According to the tipster, the smartphone is in the prototype phase and currently sports a Snapdragon 710 chipset, an LG display, 3220 mAh battery, 10x Zoom, and a “Nautilus” design. Since we are talking about prototypes, the details are most likely going to be changed before the final release. The final phone could come with a Snapdragon 855 chipset and X50 modem for 5G compatibility.

As for the form factor, we are unsure whether the smartphone will roll into a cylinder or something else. Moreover, Max J. also said that the smartphone will hit the markets by December this year.
