Xiaomi Launches Mi A3 in Europe

Xiaomi has finally taken the wraps off the stock Android-running Mi A3. The smartphone is unsurprisingly a rebranded Mi CC9e launched in China last month and contrary to multiple rumors, there is no Lite version yet.

The smartphone is an upgrade over its predecessor Mi A2 in some areas, but it is not quite what we were hoping for.

Design and Display

Since the smartphone is a rebranded CC9e, it features the same design as its selfie-focused sibling. The fingerprint sensor is relocated under the display.

Xiaomi Mi A3 comes with a 6.088-inch AMOLED display with 720p resolution, which is a downgrade from the 1080p Full HD+ on the Mi A2 and A2 Lite.

Internal and Storage

Internally, Mi A3 is powered by a Snapdragon 665, which again, is not a huge upgrade over Snapdragon 660 used in Mi A2. The chipset is paired with 4 GB RAM and 64 or 128 gigs of UFS 2.1 storage, which is a welcome change. However, unlike Mi A2 the Mi A3 comes with an SD card slot for memory expansion.

The smartphone will ship with stock Android 9.0 Pie out of the box that is guaranteed to receive two major OS upgrades over the next year.

Cameras

The key selling feature of this new smartphone is the camera. Mi A3 features a triple sensor rear camera with a 48 MP main sensor followed by an 8 MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2 MP depth sensor. Towards the front, it has a 32 MP selfie camera housed in the notch.

Battery and Pricing

This latest Android One smartphone packs an impressive 4030 mAh battery as compared to the 3000 mAh cell inside the Mi A2. Mi A3’s battery is equipped with 18W fast charging which is the same as last year, however, you’ll need to buy the fast charger separately, it only comes with a 10W power brick.

The smartphone will start at $279 in Spain for the basic 4 GB + 64 GB variant and the maxed-out variant with 128 gigs of built-in storage will come in at $313.
