Alongside MagicBook Pro and the Honor 9X, Huawei has also unveiled its brand new wearable, the Honor Band 5. The smart band is only available in China for now, but we can count on an international release in the coming weeks.
The new band looks quite similar to the existing Honor Band 4 at first glance, but it does bring noteworthy upgrades to the table. While it goes head to head against Xiaomi’s Mi Band 4, it has an edge over it thanks to its blood oxygen level sensor.
The band has a 0.95-inch (240 x 120) AMOLED color display with a curved 2.5D glass on top. It now comes with a number of new dials to match the needs of the user. It has a water resistance rating of 5ATM, which means you can take it to the swimming pool or a shower.
The biggest highlight here, however, is the blood oxygen level sensor. It can measure the SpO2 levels in your blood, indicating the levels of oxygen in your blood. It can also detect hypoxemia dizziness, a condition where your body is not getting the amount of oxygen it needs for normal functioning.
Other features include a 24-hour heart rate monitor with an AI assistant and a sleep monitor that can detect six different types of sleeping problems. There are also 10 different sports modes.
The Honor Band 5 has a 100mAh battery that can keep all of these features up and running for around 14 days. However, with the 24-hour heart rate monitor turned on, the band is going to last for 6 days.
The band is available in black, blue and pink color schemes and is starting at $28. There’s also going to be a top-end model with an NFC chip which goes up to $31. It is unclear whether the NFC variant will make it to the global market. The standard version is going on sale today, while the NFC model will launch next week.
