Amir Faces Backlash From Former Cricketers Following his Test Retirement

It came as a surprise to some when Mohammad Amir, who was Pakistan’s most promising talent at one stage, announced his retirement from Test cricket at the age of 27.

Amir announced his retirement through a video message posted on his social media a couple of days ago, where he said that he aims to focus on white-ball format for Pakistan as his body cannot sustain playing all three formats.

Some understood Amir’s decision as they clearly saw him struggle with his fitness whereas others were left baffled, which included the likes of Ramiz Raja, Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar.

Speaking on his YouTube blog, the Rawalpindi Expressed shared his disappointment over Amir’s retirement.

It boggles my mind to see Amir retire only at the age of 27. This is the age where a bowler hits his peak. He was just starting to get his form back in Test cricket. I am very disappointed to see him retire as Pakistan had invested so much in him. This was the time to serve Pakistan cricket and win matches as the Men in Green are struggling in Test Cricket. This is the time Pakistan needs you.

Similarly, Ramiz Raja was also disappointed and claimed that Amir has disrespected the game with his decision. He further suggested that perhaps he is focusing on his personal goals.

The great Wasim Akram suggested that 27-28 is the age you peak as a fast-bowler and Amir shouldn’t have retired.
