Govt to Announce New Shipping Policy Soon

The Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, is going to introduce a new shipping policy soon.

He announced this while briefing the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Maritime Affairs on Monday.

The minister said that the new shipping policy will be a major achievement for the government. He was optimistic that it will help attract more investment in the shipping sector.

The minister said that the upcoming policy will benefit all stakeholders, including Karachi Port Trust (KPT), Port Qasim Authority (PQA), and Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC).

Zaidi apprised the committee, headed by MNA Mir Amer Ali Khan Magsi, that the government is going to build ten new terminals to facilitate shipping companies and vessels.

Members of the committee pointed out problems in the recruitment process of KPT and urged the minister to verify the candidates’ domiciles during the new recruitment drive.

The meeting was also attended by the chairman and senior officials of KPT, Ports & Shipping Director-General and other members of the National Assembly.
