The First Step is the Most Important One: 17 Year Old Who Started An Online Business

Sixteen years ago, Wajahat Abbasi and his family left their hometown in Azad Kashmir and relocated to Islamabad.

Today, Wajahat is a student in the second year of college and has a deep love for the capital city.

“Islamabad is nice because it’s close to nature. The city has a peaceful environment,” the 17-year-old says.

While pursuing his studies, Wajahat says, he also had a desire to shoulder his own financial expenses and support his family. As a result, he opened an online store two years ago and started selling health and beauty products on Daraz.

“My brother started [selling online] and he motivated me,” Wajahat explains.

“The purpose of selling on Daraz was to be able to handle my own expenses myself even while i am studying and support my family,” he adds.

His advice to others looking to start their own ventures is simple: “Take small steps but take the right steps. To do anything, the initial step is the most important.”

Wajahat is one of many sellers who have realized the potential of e-commerce. At just 17, he stands testament to the fact that digital technology is changing the fabric of Pakistani society, making it possible for enterprising young individuals to start growing their online ventures.
