Karachi Faces Water Supply Disruption

Karachi may face a temporary disruption in water supply after a power breakdown at the Dhabeji pumping station on Sunday, the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation said.

A KWSC spokesperson said the fault occurred at 8:45am in the third phase of the pumping station after a cable problem triggered a power failure. He said K-Electric had identified the issue and sent a technical team to repair it.

The fault forced three pumps at the station to shut down, creating an estimated shortfall of 75 million gallons per day in the city’s water supply.

The spokesperson said areas likely to face shortages include parts of North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi and Scheme 33.

KWSC said it remained in contact with K-Electric and expected water supply to return to normal once power was restored and all pumps became operational again.
