Karachi Among the Top 10 Least Liveable Cities in the World

According to the latest edition of The Global Liveability Index published by The Economist’s Intelligence Unit, Karachi is among the least liveable cities among 140 surveyed cities of the world.

Karachi was ranked at 136th spot, one better than last year, making it the 5th least liveable city. The other poorest performing cities on the index include Damascus (Syria), Lagos (Nigeria), Dhaka (Bangladesh) and Tripoli (Libya).

Austria’s capital, Vienna has been ranked as the world’s most liveable city for the second consecutive year.

The index rated 140 destinations under the following categories:

  1. Stability
  2. Healthcare
  3. Culture and Environment
  4. Education
  5. Infrastructure

Karachi’s score:

  • Stability – 20
  • Healthcare – 45.8
  • Culture and Environment – 38.7
  • Education – 66.7
  • Infrastructure – 51.8

10 Least Liveable Cities

Below is the list of 10 worst liveable cities along with the points scored:

  1. Damascus, Syria – 30.7
  2. Lagos, Nigeria – 38.5
  3. Dhaka, Bangladesh – 39.2
  4. Tripoli, Libya – 40.4
  5. Karachi, Pakistan – 40.9
  6. Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea – 41
  7. Harare, Zimbabwe – 42.6
  8. Douala, Cameroon – 44
  9. Algiers, Algeria – 44.1
  10. Caracas, Venezuela – 46.9

Two cities from Japan, three each from Australia and Canada and one each from Austria and Denmark made it to the list:
