Samsung Officially Relaunches Galaxy Fold

Just as promised, Samsung has brought back the ill-fated Galaxy Fold. The foldable phone’s design has been improved, no more broken displays and dust getting into the hinge.

The phone will be launched in two different versions, one with LTE and the other with 5G.

Here’s the official re-introduction by Samsung:

You won’t really notice anything new or different at first glance. It looks exactly like the original Galaxy Fold that was launched a few months ago. You’re getting the same 7.3″ square-ish Infinity Flex display on the inside at QHD resolution and a tiny 4.6″ HD+ AMOLED display on the outside.

Fixing The Display and Hinge

As mentioned earlier, the improvements have more to do with the problems that the phone faced at launch. The protective layer on top of the digitizer on the display has now been tucked into the sides so you won’t be able to peel it off by accident. Many YouTubers and reviewers had peeled it off back then, causing the display to malfunction.

Other than that, the hinge had a visible gap that allowed dust and other particles to get into the phone. Samsung has now added a protective plastic covering to stop dust from getting into the hinge.

Internals and Other Specifications

The flagship foldable phone will be powered by a Snapdragon 855 and will come with 12 GB RAM and 512GB of storage onboard.

With the Galaxy Fold, there’s a camera facing you at all times. There are a total of 6 cameras on the phone, two on the main display (10+8 MP), three on the back (12+12+16 MP) and one (10 MP) on the smaller display on the front.

Lastly, it’ll have a 4,380 mAh battery with 15W fast charging on board. The 5G model has a slightly smaller battery at 4,235 mAh battery due to design limitations.

Release Date and Price

Samsung Galaxy Fold will launch in South Korea tomorrow and will be available in select countries after that, including France, Germany, the UK, and the US.

Samsung hasn’t announced the official price yet, but it should be around $2,000, the same as before.
