The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has issued notices to around 115,340 unregistered persons across the country.
According to a report by a local English newspaper, FBR has obtained financial details of around 115,340 unregistered persons. These individuals, who made huge banking transactions, own luxurious vehicles and properties and were non-filers in the last financial year.
The report stated that FBR has issued notices under Section 114 of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001 in order to persuade them to e-file income tax returns for the Tax Year 2018-19.
The board has complete financial details of these individuals related to bank accounts, vehicles, and properties and if they do not comply with the notices and don’t to enroll themselves with the tax system, forceful measures would be taken to bring them into the tax net.
The details of the notices are as follows:
FBR has adopted a zero-tolerance policy for broadening the tax base (BTB) and added that the BTB unit in Karachi has recently issued 250,000 notices using the data obtained from power and gas companies.
They said that the unit in Karachi had initiated this exercise using the data of commercial and industrial power/gas consumers from utility companies and discovered a huge number of unregistered consumers.
Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) Chairman Shabbar Zaidi has said that over 60,000 notices were sent to non-registered/non-compliant industrial and commercial consumers in Faisalabad by the FBR and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (Fesco).
