Govt Establishes Saaf Aab Authority for Providing Safe Drinking Water in Rawalpindi

Punjab government has established the Saaf Aab Authority (SAA) in Rawalpindi to ensure the provision of safe drinking water in the city. The authority will function at the grassroots level to enhance the effectiveness of this initiative.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rawalpindi, Saifullah Dogar, chaired the first meeting of the (SAA) on Saturday.

A committee, comprising national and provincial lawmakers, will monitor the progress of the working body.

Under the program, the clean water authority will repair old water supplies and install new lines wherever required. Dogar is hopeful that the initiative will help reduce the water shortage in the district.

It is worth mentioning here that in the past couple of years, the complaints of water shortage in Rawalpindi have risen to an alarming level. Experts believe that underground water sources are rapidly depleting in the city.

Considering the worrisome situation, the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) had previously recommended a ban on the installation of new tube wells.
